Gunn Baldursson was a young woman who showed the best of everything. She was an exceptional athlete, a leader, an individual, an outstanding scholar and a musician who soared.

Gunn Baldursson was a third year, pre-med. student at Acadia University at the time of her death in a tragic automobile accident on November 26th, 1987. A native of Iceland, she had moved to Canada with her family at the age of 15. A distinguished scholar, as well as an outstanding athlete, she was a Dean's List student during each of her years at Acadia University and still had time to play principal violin for the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra.

As a university soccer player, Baldursson was the leading scorer in Canada and an Atlantic Conference All-Star in each of the three years she played. In 1987 she led the Acadia Women's Soccer Team to victory in the AUAA soccer championship and to a berth in the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union championship. Her natural abilities earned her status as a first-team All-Canadian that year. She also played with the Nova Scotia provincial women's soccer team and in the summer of 1987, was chosen to be a member of the Canadian Women's National Soccer Team. On November 30th, 1987, she was to have travelled to British Columbia with 23 other young women from across the country for another tryout with the national team and a possible play in Taiwan in Mid-December.

Gunn Baldursson was a natural athlete with exceptional soccer skills. She displayed an abounding love for the game which was obvious to those around her. Her presence raised the calibre and ambitions of her team-mates as well as those who played against her. She was an outstanding individual and leader who exemplified perfection in academics, athletics and the arts.
